Chignitta is pleased to present illustrator Mayumi Terada's solo exhibition “Fortunate Pinches” starting Saturday, November 8th. Adult detachment, resignation, romance, humor. Let's talk in front of the paintings.

Life presents us with countless crises. While their nature and intensity vary, they often become opportunities to shed our old selves—perhaps we should welcome them with respect. Facing a crisis, the ideal (though utterly impossible for me) is to calmly begin shedding that old skin. Given the choice between lamenting or finding amusement, I'd prefer to side with finding amusement. And thinking further, while there's such a thing as a silver lining, there also seems to be something a step above that – a “crisis that turns into extraordinary luck.” Luck born precisely from the predicament, you might say. It's sweet chaos. A rare blessing. A dramatic event. We who must somehow navigate daily crises tend to tense up and get knotted all over. What, then, do I want by my side to loosen that tension even a little? Fragments of drama or excitement, perhaps? Or perspectives from the margins or oblique angles? I think humor is the ultimate remedy.
